Segway, the Chinese-owned company once known as an American innovator in personal transportation, has announced a major recall affecting around 220,000 units of its popular Ninebot Max G30P and Max G30LP scooters.

The reason? A potentially dangerous flaw in the folding mechanism. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the scooters’ handlebars or stems can suddenly collapse while in use, posing a serious risk to riders. So far, there have been 68 reported cases of the defect, with 20 riders suffering injuries—including cuts, bruises, and even broken bones.
