Nepal was experiencing major political uncertainty after the government collapsed, and it raised questions about who would be the next one to get appointed as Prime Minister. After all the major turning downs, Nepal got its new PM, Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli, to take on the position for the fourth consecutive time. He was first elected as the prime minister in 2015; then, he was re-elected again in 2018 and again in 2021 for Nepal’s parliamentary turbulence. Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli, age 72 years, is heading the communist party of Nepal – Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML).
After defeating the former coalition government ally Pushpa Kamal Dahal after losing a vote on 12 July 2024, Oli secured his name as the new PM. Under the new power-sharing arrangements, Oli and Sher Bahadur Deuba, the Nepali Congress party’s president, will swap the prime minister position until the general election in 2027. Nepal has been a federal public since 2008; however, later on, the government abolished the monarchy, and political restructuring can escalate economic challenges.
Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli entered politics at the age of 14 and has expertise in managing government. His leadership’s biggest challenge is managing Nepal’s relations with giant neighbouring countries like India and China. It would be interesting to witness what new changes unfold after his appointment and how Nepal politics will revive with his past experiences.
