Ooredoo Group shared news on Thursday that it plans to invest $800 million in Zankore. It is an artificial intelligence platform that operates in Indonesia. According to the agreement, Ooredoo will own 49% of the company. This makes Ooredoo a founding shareholder and the biggest supporter of the platform. The money is meant to help start Zankore and support its growth in the years.
As per the company, the bet is expected to pay off handsomely; the company anticipates around $600 million in EBITDA from the venture over a five-year window. Beyond the financial upside, Ooredoo sees the deal as a way to deepen its presence in digital infrastructure and gain ground in a region where technology demand is accelerating fast.
Ooredoo’s chief executive officer, Aziz Aluthman Fakhroo, said that Ooredoo has already set up a digital system in the Middle East and North Africa. He thinks that investing in Zankore is a way for Ooredoo to get bigger in Asia. People in Asia really want to use intelligent technology. Aziz Aluthman Fakhroo also said that artificial intelligence will be very important for Ooredoo’s business in the future. They want to work with partners to create something that will last, while also seeing AI as a major opportunity.
Zankore itself is a joint effort involving Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, Nokia, and NVIDIA. The platform is set to house 1 gigawatt of AI factory capacity powered by NVIDIA technology, putting Ooredoo among the first movers in Southeast Asia’s push toward large-scale AI infrastructure. The initiative is designed to meet the region’s rising need for AI-driven services and high-performance computing capabilities.
