Farmers in Vietnam are being forced to leave their land for a $1.5 billion golf resort linked to Trump, getting only about $12 per square meter.

Officials say the compensation is fair, but many villagers worry about losing their homes and jobs. The Trump Organization is not responsible for paying them, causing public concern as thousands of people in Vietnam’s Hung Yen province are being forced to leave their land.

The Trump Organization’s first project in Vietnam, partnered with Kinh Bac City, started earlier this year. It includes a 54-hole golf course, luxury homes, resorts, and a city complex.

According to Reuters, farmers being moved are paid between $12 and $30 per square meter. They also get extra money for crops and rice. Local officials say farmland is usually worth about $14 per square meter.

In Vietnam, the government owns all the land but gives farmers rights to use it long-term. These rights can be taken back for public projects. Many farmers, especially older ones, feel the compensation won’t support their future.

The project faced criticism for beginning before finishing all required environmental checks and approvals. The New York Times says it was approved quickly as Vietnam worked to lower US tariffs.

Vietnam’s Prime Minister praised the project for boosting ties with the US and promised fair pay to those affected. The White House said Trump’s kids run his business, but reports show he still earns money from it.
