In the latest development, the giant automaker Honda and Sony have joined hands to capitalise on the shift in consumer demand towards electric vehicles. According to Livemint, Sony will unveil its new prototype Vision-S electric vehicle in January and announced that its new subsidiary will explore growth options in the sector.
Sony Group stated, “The two Japanese names hope to establish their firm by the end of this year. It further mentioned that this alliance aims to realise a new generation of mobility and services that are closely aligned with users and the environment.”
The company further assured the customers that Honda, as the manufacturer, would begin selling its first electric vehicle in 2025. However, both companies are working on design, sales, and technology.
According to the president of the Sony Group, Kenichiro Yoshida, Honda and Sony share cultural similarities, but their expertise lies in different technological domains. He further shared that the alliance will combine the strengths of both companies and open up multiple possibilities.
Will To Compete
This joint venture between the two giant automakers attempts to take a slice of the growing EV market. Currently, EVs contribute merely 10% of European automobile sales and only 2% of the US’ total automobile sales. However, demand will increase as people become more aware of environmental concerns.
