In the latest turn of events, Hong Kong mourns the death of the property tycoon Lee Shau-Kee, who was once considered the richest man in Asia. Moreover, in February 2025, Forbes mentioned his total net worth to be approximately  $30 Bn, making him the richest man in the city. 

According to the BBC, the announcement was made by the property firm Henderson Land Development, where he served as the Chairman for 40 years. The company mentioned that “Lee died in the company of his family.” However, the company didn’t specify the reason behind his death.

Journey Of Lee Shau-Kee

Lee was born in Guangdong Province, southern China, and later moved to Hong Kong as a young man, where he began his business career in gold and foreign currency exchange before transitioning to real estate.

In 1958, he co-founded Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP), one of Hong Kong’s largest property developers.

Nicknamed “Uncle Four” as the fourth eldest among his siblings, Lee ventured out on his own in 1976 to establish Henderson Land Development. After his retirement in 2019, the company was taken over by his two sons.
