ByteX and Cenne have officially merged to create ByteX Financial, a new cross-border fintech company. The combined business will focus on making international money movement faster and easier between North America, India, and Africa. Well-known Nigerian entrepreneur Onyeka Akumah will lead the new company as its Chief Executive Officer from its headquarters in Canada. While the deal’s exact financial details were not shared, the leadership team is already in place.
The merger strategy relies on combining different strengths. ByteX brings strong international payments infrastructure, while Cenne contributes advanced, AI-powered technology and an established network in Africa and the Caribbean. Together, they form a powerful operation. Since 2023, the combined entities have processed over C$3.6 billion in transactions, and the business currently handles about C$1.2 billion in annualised transaction volume across Canada, the United States, and India.
The new company has a highly experienced management team. The founder and Chief Executive Officer, Onyeka Akumah, has an extensive track record of launcrecord and has built startupsapincluding one that providedllions of users. Joining him at the top are is Charles Sanda – Co-Founder, President, Chief Commercial Officer, and managing director who has handled billions in financing, and co-founder and COO Sayan Roy, an engineer who will guide product and technology delivery.

Traditional financial systems have often failed to serve the links between these regions. ByteX Financial plans to use Cenne’s existing network to expand its payment services into African and Caribbean corridors by 2027. Ultimately, the company aims to build a modern financial infrastructure that helps businesses trade and move money seamlessly across continents, tapping into a massive commercial opportunity.
