Android smartphones are the most common devices. Keeping it error-free is necessary to make the device work smoothly. Sometimes, your Android device  says, “System UI is not responding.” This means an error in your phone’s system user interface (UI). When this happens, all your apps will stop working, and a message will pop up on your screen saying ‘error’. It can occur due to several problems; the most common is an issue with one of the apps on your phone.

Simple Solutions for Android System UI is Not Responding Error

There are some simple solutions you should follow before taking your phone to a repair centre. Most of the time, these easy steps will help you solve your issue.  So, try to resolve your problem – System UI is not responding – with the following workarounds.  

  1. Restart Your Android and clear the system UI cache.

Whenever you face an issue with your phone, the first thing you should do is to restart your device. To restart, press and hold the on/off button and click the ‘restart’ option that appears on the screen. Also, clear your system UI cache. Go to settings>Apps and Notifications>See all Apps>System UI>Storage and cache > Clear cache. This is the most likely solution when your Android UI is not responding.  

2. Update Your Apps and Android Software 

Another way to solve the issue when your Android System UI is not responding is to update your apps. Open the Play Store, go to your profile icon, and then click on ‘Manage Apps and Devices’. All installed apps will appear there. Tap update to update an individual app or ‘Update All’ to update them all at once. To update your Android system, open settings, go to System and check for updates, then follow the instructions that will prompt on your screen. 

3. Uninstall the Recently Installed App

Recently installed apps might create a problem by conflicting with the user interface; removing the app will eliminate the source of the problem. To uninstall the recently downloaded app, open the settings menu, tap and hold the app icon and Uninstall it. Then you will be asked to confirm the uninstallation of the app. Click ‘OK’ or ‘Uninstall’ again to proceed. You can also reinstall the app if you want, in the Google Play Store. Just go to ‘My apps and games’ and search for the name of your app. When it shows, tap on the app icon and install it again. 

4.  Check for Malware

You can also check for Malware on your Android device if your ‘System UI is not responding’. Malware can also impact the performance of your device. Open the Google Play Store, tap your profile icon, go to Play Protect and tap ‘Scan’ to start scanning all your apps. Another way to check for malware is to download an antivirus app from the Google Play Store, run it on the system, and follow the app’s instructions to remove any detected malware.  

5. Check Storage Space

Inadequate storage space can be a reason why the Android system UI is not responding. Open settings, select storage and tap on it. It will show your storage usage according to category (photos, videos, documents, etc.)  and how much storage is left on your Android device. 

6. Factory Reset

A factory reset is performed to format your phone or to restore its original factory settings. Make sure to back up any important data, as it erases all your data from your device. If your Android UI not responding, go to settings, find the ‘Reset option’ and then select ‘Factory Data Reset’. Follow the instructions that appear on your screen to initiate the hard reset. This process will take some time. Once the device reset is complete, the device will look as if it were new.
