Amid the growing concerns about Donald’s trump tariff plans, Asian chip manufacturer Foxconn stands tall with a global footprint. According to Reuters, Foxconn mentioned that they will have little impact of the US tariff plans, if any, due their global presence.
Moreover, chairman of the contract manufacturer and key Apple supplier, Young Liu, mentioned, “clients may decide to shift production locations, but looking at Foxconn’s global footprint, we are ahead. As a result, the impact on us is likely smaller compared to our competitors.”
Foxconn is among the largest contract manufacturers of electronics, has one of its biggest manufacturing facilities in China which also has a mega iPhone assembly plant. In an attempt to diversify its supply chain it has made significant investments in countries like the USA, Mexico and Vietnam. In Mexico, the company is currently investing in its mega projects to build a manufacturing facility for producing Nvidia’s GB200 superchips.
Donald Trump’s Tariffs
On Monday, the US elect president mentioned that soon after joining the office as the president, he will be imposing a 25% tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada, and 10% additional taxes would be charged on goods imported from China.
On this statement of Donald Trump, Liu commented, “What you’re seeing now is a game between nations, not yet between companies. Whether it’s 25% or an additional 10%, the outcome is uncertain as they continue to negotiate. We are constantly adapting and refining our global strategy.”
