Foxconn, best known for assembling iPhones and AI servers, is shifting focus to the road ahead—literally. The Taiwanese manufacturing giant is hosting a seminar in Japan on April 9 to outline its electric vehicle (EV) strategy, aiming to strengthen ties with Japanese automakers after landing a major deal with Mitsubishi Motors.

Leading the discussion is Jun Seki, Foxconn’s Chief EV Strategy Officer and a former Nissan executive, who joined the company in 2023. His insights are expected to shape how automakers and suppliers understand Foxconn’s ambitions in the EV space.

Foxconn remains tight-lipped about the Mitsubishi deal and the upcoming seminar, but industry insiders see this as a game-changing moment. The contract with Mitsubishi, which will see Foxconn building EVs for Oceania markets like Australia, marks the company’s first major EV contract in Japan—a country whose traditional auto industry is under increasing pressure from Chinese EV disruptors like BYD.

This milestone is a big step in Foxconn’s five-year EV journey, which has had its fair share of ups and downs. Deals with companies like China’s Geely and Lordstown Motors didn’t pan out as planned, but the Mitsubishi partnership signals a new chapter—one where Foxconn could become a key player in the global EV race.
