Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing business of Chinese internet behemoth Alibaba Group, revealed plans to establish its third data center in Malaysia on Tuesday, with a second data center in the Philippines scheduled to open in October, according to a statement posted on Wednesday.
The company stated that the expansion is intended to fulfil the growing global need for safe, resilient, and scalable cloud services.
Founded in 1999 under the leadership of Jack Ma, Alibaba Group is a Chinese multinational company specialising in technology, e-commerce, retail, internet, and commodity trading. With headquarters in Hangzhou, Alibaba serves platforms such as Taobao, Tmall, and Alibaba.com, connecting over millions of buyers and sellers worldwide.

The company has also transformed e-commerce in China and expanded into logistics, fintech (through Ant Group), and artificial intelligence. Despite regulatory hurdles and management changes, the company continues to innovate and invest in digital properties, maintaining its dominance in Asia and emerging overseas markets.
