 The SEA-ME-WE 6 (South East Asia-Middle East-Western Europe 6) submarine optical fiber cable, which will stretch 21,700 km and connect India to Singapore and France (Marseille), has moved forward in its implementation as Bharti Airtel has announced that they have landed the subsea cable in Chennai, which will boost connectivity between various countries. Airtel had previously landed the same cable in Mumbai, which is expected to become operational in 2026. 

The subsea cable is poised to connect India to Singapore and France (Marseille); crossing Egypt through the Terres cable will provide India with a 220 Terabit Per Second (TbPs) connection with the other countries.

Sarat Sinha, the Director and CEO of Airtel Business, said, “We are delighted to further strengthen our global connectivity by landing one of the largest cable systems into our facilities. This complements our existing network strength of 40,000 fhyperscal0 Rkms across 50 countries.
