Bluehill.VC, a venture capital firm based in Chennai, has led a ₹10.2 crore ($1.1 million) seed funding round for an Indian semiconductor startup named Makr Microsystems. Artha Venture Fund also participated in the round. This funding marks a significant step for India’s growing deep-tech and semiconductor ecosystem.
Makr Microsystems focuses on semiconductor metrology, a process that measures and inspects microscopic elements during chip manufacturing. In particular, the startup creates advanced 3D subsurface metrology products at the nanoscale. The advanced equipment that enables flaw detection and measurements below the surface of semiconductor chips uses acoustic atomic force microscopy, optical tomography, and 3D data analytics.
The startup announced that it will use the newly raised capital for technology development, customer validation, and preparing for commercial deployment of its products. Measuring subsurface structures is critical for modern chipmaking, as electronic components become smaller and more complex. Makr’s software and hardware solutions aim to make this quality control process more efficient for manufacturers.
