One of Germany’s largest companies, the Messer Group, is poised to expand its footprint in Southeast Asia. The company announced the acquisition of a Singaporean-Malaysian firm, alongside a deal aimed at consolidating its regional platform.
As per the company’s announcement, it has acquired 100% of the shares of WKS Group, a leading local industrial gases player with operations across Singapore and Malaysia. Along with WKS Group, the company has completed the acquisition of Wipco Industrial Sdn Bhd and has signed an agreement to acquire Kobewel Kogyo Gases Sdn Bhd.
This acquisition, as per Messer, is a part of its decisive push into what it describes as the largest industrial gases market in Southeast Asia, strengthening its regional presence and tapping into the fast-growing manufacturing corridors in the region.
WKS Group is a large organisation comprising six companies and employing over 195 personnel. Furthermore, they possess a diversified business portfolio that includes packaged gas filling stations, dissolved acetylene production, cylinder depots, welding equipment distribution, and specialised services for marine and offshore clients. In a second agreement, Messer has also acquired Wipco Industrial, expanding further into North Malaysia.

A third agreement, still pending completion, covers Kobewel Kogyo Gases, which functions out of Sepang and focuses on packaged gases with strong direct-to-customer relationships. Once folded in, it is expected to help streamline Messer’s operations around Kuala Lumpur into a single, more efficient hub.
According to the company, these moves will create operational efficiencies while boosting technical capacity in high-growth segments such as electronics, medical gases, and marine applications.
