In a recent development, Vietnam and the United States signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) during a business forum in the U.S. to enhance cooperation in energy, artificial intelligence, and data centres.
According to the Vietnamese government, the MoUs cover several key agreements, including:
- Energy technology transfer between Vietnam’s state oil company, PetroVietnam, and Kellogg Brown & Root.
- LNG cooperation between PetroVietnam’s subsidiary PTSC and Excelerate Energy.

- AI and data centre development will be done through a partnership between Sovico Group and Supermicro.
Vietnam’s budget airline, Vietjet, also signed a $1.1 billion cooperation agreement with Honeywell Aerospace Technologies. Under this deal, Honeywell will provide avionics and aviation technical services for Vietjet’s fleet.
To Lam, the President of Vietnam attended the forum and emphasised that there is significant potential for cooperation between the two countries. He hoped the U.S. would become Vietnam’s largest source of foreign investment. However, he noted that the U.S. government should recognise Vietnam as a market economy, a request that the U.S. Department of Commerce has declined.
