Several prominent civil society activists from the House of Representatives of the Philippines lodged an impeachment motion against Vice President Sara Duterte for giving death threats to the President of the country. Moreover, she is accused of extra-judicial killings, corruption, and failure to hold ground against Chinese aggression in the disputed South China region.
Representative Percival Cendana stated that Duterte’s impeachment would free the nation from the nightmare the VP has brought upon the Philippines. Also, according to the copy of the complaint sent by The Associated Press, “extent of respondent’s mental incapacity, her depravity and lack of mental fitness to continue holding the high office of vice president of the Philippines.”
However, President Marcos believes in the contrary. He mentioned that impeaching Sara Duterte would waste time while the country faces other important challenges.
Crimes Of Sara Duterte
The Philippines, one of the fastest-growing regions in ASEAN, is currently dealing with corrupt and malevolent high-level officials. Apart from threatening the President, Sara Duterte is being investigated for misuse of $10.3 million of confidential and intelligence funds. Also, during her tenure as the mayor of Davao City, she continued the killing of drug suspects, a campaign that was launched by her father when he was the mayor.
Moreover, Philippine police have lodged criminal complaints against Duterte and her security team, accusing them of assaulting law enforcement personnel and defying orders during a confrontation in Congress related to Lopez’s detention. Later, a military officer mentioned that she chose to be silent during the Chinese aggression against the Philippines in the South China Sea.
