Asian Paints Limited just announced a major leadership shakeup, locking in financial industry veteran Leo Puri as its next Chairman of the Board. The official transition is set for January 23, 2027. Leo will step into the shoes of outgoing chairman R. Seshasayee right after his term wraps up on January 22. This change comes at a massive turning point for India’s biggest paint manufacturer. Right now, Asian Paints is fighting hard to protect its territory against aggressive new market entry from corporate giants like the Aditya Birla Group and JSW Group. Leo is joining the board for a five-year term as an Additional and Independent Director, from September 7, 2026, to September 6, 2031, pending shareholder approval.
Leo has an estimated 40 years of power-packed experience in global finance, private equity and corporate strategy. His name carries a strong reputation, built during his tenure as Chairman of South & Southeast Asia at JPMorgan Chase. Before that, he served as Managing Director & CEO of UTI Asset Management. He is a recognised Senior Partner at McKinsey & Company and a Managing Director and General Partner at Warburg Pincus.
Even today, Leo remains incredibly busy across multiple massive boardroom operations. He currently functions as the India Advisory Chairman for the private equity powerhouse Apax Partners. In addition, he is Chairman and Independent Director at Fortis Healthcare, Lead Independent Director at Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, and an Independent Director at the Spanish travel-tech giant Amadeus. By bringing Puri on board, Asian Paints is clearly looking to lean heavily on his deep background in governance, capital allocation, and market strategy to steer the ship through intense domestic competition.
