Thailand has temporarily put 166 data centre projects on hold to establish national standards for power stations, locations, water, safety, economic benefits, and environmental impact. Large-scale data centres have secured investments in Thailand as part of a wider initiative to gain an innovator advantage in the rapidly expanding digital and AI economy.
The investment will significantly expand infrastructure capacity, create jobs, commercialise technology, enable user-friendly cloud and AI applications, increase clean-energy use, and create meaningful opportunities for nearby businesses. Local data centres will support its AI economy, speed up digital services, and strengthen national security.

Today, Thailand is again documenting different levels of investment. Thailand’s Cabinet sanctioned the formation of the Data Centre Business Policy Committee, an inter-ministerial body tasked with coordinating policies across energy, digital infrastructure, environment, and investment. The committee was formally published in the Government Gazette on 13 August 2026. According to Thailand’s National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), authorities are correcting the licensing framework for data centre operations.
