Redefining Hospitality and Franchise Leadership Across Africa and the Middle East

Even in the busiest hotel lobbies, Najib Erraiss had a knack for seeing the bigger picture, not just the guest experience, but the untapped potential of the entire operation. That early instinct has guided him from managing hotels on the ground to leading MFA Hospitality and Mbnb Morocco, where he shapes franchise growth across Africa and the Middle East. Najib is credited with launching the first 100% Moroccan-made short-stay booking platform, Mbnb Morocco, and the signing on behalf of HKO Company of a management agreement to open the first Le Méridien in Casablanca’s Economic City under a Marriott International franchise agreement. An Executive MBA holder from EHL and Cornell University, and PhD in Hospitality Management from California University amongst others, Najib’s leadership is anchored in three enduring principles: empathy, rigour, and forward-thinking. Empathy allows him to understand the aspirations of partners, teams, and markets, uncovering opportunities and strengthening collaborations. Rigour ensures operational precision, financial discipline, and scalable frameworks, enabling him to guide multiple brands and investors with confidence. Forward-thinking drives every strategic decision, keeping growth, sustainability, and market dynamics at the forefront of every initiative. Transitioning from hotel operations to franchise advisory revealed a key insight: leadership is about enabling others to succeed. Today, Najib focuses on mentoring partners, providing clarity, and building structures that allow teams and franchisees to achieve excellence. By listening, guiding, and empowering, he unlocks potential and fosters a culture of ownership and high performance. Under his stewardship, MFA Hospitality has become more than a consulting firm. Today, it is a catalyst for opportunity, a builder of legacies, and a platform where ambitious visions are transformed into thriving, sustainable businesses. For Najib, every project is a chance to redefine hospitality, unlock untapped potential, and turn bold ideas into enduring success stories that leave a lasting impact across the region. He shares his success stories and more with TradeFlock.
The core challenge lies in balancing stability with opportunity. Unpredictable tourism flows and macroeconomic headwinds demand conservative planning, cost containment, and flexibility, yet long-term value in hospitality real estate comes from strategic expansion, brand positioning, and innovation, which inherently involve risk. To manage this, I advise a “phased risk” approach: begin with developments or conversions under established midsize brands or franchise platforms, then invest in expansion, renovation, or upscale brand conversions once stability is proven. Simultaneously, maintain a diverse portfolio of business, leisure, and extended-stay assets, and strong financial liquidity buffers. Innovation is carefully timed and conservatively budgeted, not sidelined.
My vision for MFA over the next five to ten years is to establish it as the definitive bridge connecting African brands to global franchise ecosystems. We are pursuing three strategic pillars: capability building, market access, and digital-first infrastructure. We invest in training, mentoring, and certification programmes to prepare local entrepreneurs for international franchise standards across operations, quality, and brand management. For market access, MFA actively builds partnerships with investors, hospitality groups, and real estate developers, positioning itself as the trusted advisory and matchmaking platform for ambitious African brands. Technology amplifies our reach: a cloudbased franchise management system enables remote onboarding, standardised reporting, compliance, and quality audits, while data analytics and market intelligence track demand, forecast tourism flows, and evaluate real-estate feasibility. This datadriven, digitally enabled approach keeps MFA agile, responsive, and ready to scale brands efficiently across diverse markets.
Expanding brands internationally from Morocco or Africa involves regulatory, cultural, and logistical challenges. My strategy rests on three pillars: local-first customisation, global-standard discipline, and partner-centric collaboration. Before entering a new market, we conduct deep due diligence on regulations, labour laws, cultural expectations, supply chains, and guest behaviour, then tailor brand elements—layout, service protocols, menus, or amenities—without diluting identity. Global-standard discipline is maintained through operating manuals, training, audits, and guidelines, ensuring consistency and building trust. Finally, we engage the right local partners, joint ventures, or master franchisees as stakeholders, aligning interests to strengthen market understanding and enhance long-term success across geographies.
I firmly believe that mentorship and leadership development are the foundations of sustainable growth, not just for individual businesses, but for entire economies. Entrepreneurship without guidance is like building without a blueprint; mentorship provides the structural support to ensure success, passing on not only technical knowledge but also culture, values, work ethic, and vision. Personally, I aim to contribute by opening doors I’ve walked through. Through MFA Hospitality, I conduct regular mentoring sessions, workshops, and masterclasses, with a special focus on youth from underrepresented regions. Additionally, I plan to launch scholarship and fellowship programmes for promising hospitality and business graduates, equipping them with the academic and practical grounding to scale their ideas confidently. For me, success is not measured solely by hotels or franchises built, but by the number of capable, ethical, and visionary entrepreneurs we nurture, leaders who will drive the next wave of growth across Morocco, Africa, and the GCC.
