U.S chipmaker Qualcomm launched an Artificial Intelligence Research and Development Centre in Vietnam, the company said on Tuesday.
In a meeting at Hanoi on Tuesday with Alex Rogers, Qualcomm’s president of global affairs, Vietnam’s top leader To Lam urged the company to continue enlarging its operations in the country, including its semiconductor and digital infrastructure businesses.
In an official statement, the company said, ‘ Its researchers will focus on advancing generative and Agentic AI solutions across smartphones, personal computers, XR ( extended reality), automotive and IoT applications.
Qualcomm also said that they will mainly focus on transferring technology, ecosystem collaboration, and capacity building because this move is aligned with Vietnam’s strategies for AI, semiconductors, and digital advancement. This move has the potential to contribute to the training and development of local and international AI experts and engineers, and also encourage the country’s sustainable socio-economic development.
As outlined in Resolution 57-NQ/TW, issued by Vietnam’s Politburo on December 22, 2024, the country has set an ambitious goal to become one of Southeast Asia’s top three hubs for artificial intelligence (AI) research and development by 2030. This strategic push toward technological and digital innovation attracts growing interest from major global tech companies, drawn by Vietnam’s robust talent pool, favorable investment climate, and geographically advantageous position in the region.
