India will take part in its 8th Trade Policy Review (TRP) at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) on 21 and 23 July 2026. Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agarwal will be in charge of the Indian group. The WTP reviews the trade policies of all its member countries to make sure they are open and transparent. India’s trade policies are reviewed once every five years. This review covers the period from January 2021 to December 2025.

The review is based on two reports, one prepared by the Government of India and the other by the WTO Secretariat. The process began in June 2025, and the Department of Commerce worked with over 100 ministries, departments, and organisations to prepare India’s report. The report says that India’s economy recovered strongly after the COVID-19 pandemic and remained among the world’s fastest-growing major economies. India’s exports of goods and services also reached a record $863.1 billion in 2025–26, compared to $676.5 billion in 2021–22.

The report highlights India’s progress in trade deals, GST reforms, and digital payments like UPI. Consequently, WTO members submitted over 900 questions about India’s economic policies.

More than 40 WTO members are expected to speak during the review. India will answer their questions, explain its trade policies, and present its plan for future growth. The Trade Policy Review is an important WTO process that promotes transparency and better understanding of each member country’s trade policies.
