On Monday, Yomiuri Newspaper reported that two major automobile manufacturers in Japan, Nissan and Mitsubishi Corp, will combine their resources to provide world-class autonomous driving. The newspaper further stated that the joint venture will use electric vehicle batteries as storage batteries.
According to the Nikkei, Mitsubishi Motors was poised to join forces with Honda Motor and Nissan Motor, forming an alliance with a combined sales volume exceeding 8 million vehicles. However, as the push comes from Nissan, the joint venture is planned to form between the two giants Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors. It is scheduled to launch in March 2025, with both companies participating as equal partners.

The company has produced iconic models like the Nissan GT-R, Altima, and Leaf—the latter being one of the world’s best-selling electric vehicles. Nissan is a pioneer in electric and autonomous vehicle development and focuses on sustainability, aiming to reduce emissions and enhance mobility solutions globally. Even after this, Nissan has steadily lost its market share in two major vehicle consumption countries, the USA and China. These two countries together accounted for half of its global sales in the year to March.
